About Woven Wood BlindsBy: Osmundo Bernabe
Woven wood blinds are made out of rushes, brass reeds or bamboo and you can buy them very cheaply in Chinatown. They are perfect for students on a budget. This type of window covering treatment also goes very well with most decors but keep in mind that for the most part they give a very casual message to anyone who visits your place. They look like kitchen doormats hanging in the window. Usually woven wood blinds are not associated with really classy décor unless it is Asian.
Woven wood blinds can also look really ratty if they are really cheap. They are thin and they distress very easily with wear and tear. They can also harbor bugs, mites and other creatures if they have not pretreated somehow. The very expensive and high quality versions of woven wood blinds, such as those by Provencal or Hunter Douglas, are usually worth the price because they are much more durable and do not degrade as quickly as the cheap versions you can get in dollar stores and in Chinatown. Basically woven wood blinds work the same way that standard shades do. When raised the woven woods hang in even, overlapping folds and when shut they lie perfectly flat. Like any window blind, inspect the quality of the cord that manipulates the entire device, as it will have a lot to with whether or not the blind will hang evenly and how long it will last. Many major manufacturers rate their woven blinds in terms of the kind of quality of light that they offer. A 2 rating can mean that the blind offers moderate privacy and softened light. A woven wooden blind that is rated 3 offers soft light and substantial privacy. One rated 3 offers diffused light and complete privacy from the outside world. Woven wood blinds cast a nice filtered light when they are closed. How much privacy they will provide depends on how thickly they are woven. Usually the thicker the reeds are that are used to weave the sticks together the easier it will be for someone from the outside to see through. Woven wood blinds are not your first choice if you need a way of keeping heat in and cold out or vice versa. They do not have very good insulating qualities. However they are excellent for the type of room that needs a bit of a breeze even while a window shade is pulled down. This is because it is very easy for air to circulate through the woven mat and into your room while it is closed. This makes it the ideal choice of window covering treatment for individuals who like to sleep with the window open at night while at the same time protecting their privacy.
