The Beauty of an Arch Window Covering

By: Osmundo Bernabe

An arch window adds beauty, style, and character to your home. By selecting an arch window covering that complements your home décor you can accentuate your room’s ambience while shading out too much light. First you can choose blinds for your arch windows that are either fixed or moveable. Fixed window coverings will permanently stay closed and are great for those who won’t be using the window for light. Moveable coverings can be opened to allow for the sun’s rays to shine through. Once you decide whether or not you will select fixed or moveable coverings, you will need to choose a material for your blinds. You can select from wood, PVC, or cellular. Cellular is considered a “soft” covering while wood is considered a “hard” covering.

Arch Window Covering: Sizing it Up!

You will need to take measurements of your window before purchasing your arch window blinds. First you will need to decide if you will be mounting your blinds on the inside or the outside. There will be different measurements for both inside or outside mountings. Taking an inside measurement is relatively simple. Just measure the width and height of the inside of the arch without making any deductions. For outside mounts, measure the arch at its highest point. If you are measuring quarter arches, the height will be the same as the width.

Using a Template for Your Arch Windows

If you are going to mail order your blinds, then the company may request that you include a template of your windows. It is very easy to make a template. Use butcher paper and tape it to the arch window. Trace and cut out either the inside width for an inside mount or add the outside diameter to your tracing for an outside mount. Make sure to label your template as “outside,” inside,” and “top”.
