Versatile and Fashionable Window Coverings

Two of the most functional of window coverings that exist are window shades and Venetian blinds. They allow you to adjust the levels of light that enter any room in a variety of ways – by adjusting the slats or hoisting the shade up and down. Window coverings can also be a way of directly blocking out sunlight to prevent fabrics and rugs from being faded by ultraviolet rays. Yet much more than this these humble window coverings have become much more fashionable in recent years.

One of the reasons that people never really think of the window shade as fashion is because they are just so grateful to find a cheap window covering that actually fits their window frame. Do not get us wrong some discount window covering are great. However, they do not even really think about how the shade will compliment the room. This is why you see kitchens with solid black window coverings that look like they belong in a photographer’s dark room and living rooms with Venetian blinds that look like they belong in an elementary school.

If your décor has a bit of a rustic or country flair or if your room is filled with mission furniture then stay away from the shiny black or white vinyl or plastic Venetian style window covering. However, they do make Venetian blinds in wood and imitation wood veneers such as Faux wood window blinds, if you like the patterns that created by filtered light. May be what you are looking for is a wooden window blind. The best two style of window covering for a rustic or country style room are either folding hinged shutters or drawstring style window shades that are made of bunched fabric.

If your décor is minimalist or has an Asian flair to it then you are in luck as the most inexpensive window covering will suit your decor Simple bamboo slatted or roll down window shades (plain or patterned) can look great in these types of room. Roll down blinds made of rice paper and decorated with Asian symbols can also greatly enhance this type of look especially if you have rooms that have teak, rattan and other oriental styles of furniture.

If your décor is Italian neo modern, then you can’t go wrong with Venetian blinds. Lateral Venetian blinds are mainstay when it comes to this type of sleek, sharp and sinuous look. Both blinds with narrow slats and fat slats look good in this type of room. However stay away from vertical blinds that are too corporate to give your home a fashionable look.

If you are going for that Stanley Kubrick style mod look then roll down shades in bright colors compliment the plastic and vinyl furniture associated with that style. You can also now buy Venetian blinds in all sorts of strange veneers and textures (such as composite leather) in off beat colors from that era such as orange and puce.

It is important that you get the look and feel that you want you from your blinds. A popular and well known blind are Hunter Douglas window blinds. They are great to help you achieve style.

Of course looks aren’t everything. When choosing window coverings you should always keep in mind what the room they are being installed in is used for. For instance rice paper shades may not give you the “black out” effect you would get with opaque dark blue or black shades in a bedroom. May be what you should consider looking into a custom window covering to help compliment your style.

Nowadays there is no excuse to have a boring or unsuitable window covering in any room. Roll down shades and Venetian blinds are now offered in a design that is perfect for every décor. You can buy pink Venetian blinds to decorate a nursery, leather Venetian blinds to decorate a home den and window shades with motifs, symbols and patterns that suit just about every activity or hobby. Best of all window coverings nowadays are very affordable and come in a great range of dimensions. It is much easier to fit window coverings “off the rack” on some of the more modern windows that are a part of modern urban architecture then it was twenty years ago.
