Tips for Choosing a French Door Window Covering

By: Osmundo Bernabe

Bright, roomy, and full of space: French Doors add dimension and light to any room they grace. However, choosing a French Door window covering may be a little tricky due to the fact that the doors must have freedom to open and close without the selected covering hindering the movement. From curtains to blinds, people choose a variety of options and styles to cover their French Door windows while still allowing access to bright sunlight when desired.

Choosing Blinds for a French Door Window Covering

Some prefer to use blinds to cover their French Door windows, due to the fact that they can be affixed over the door, and then opened or closed to control how much light is allowed to pass through. You can choose blinds in a variety of colors and styles so finding a pair to match your home décor isn’t a difficult process. Blinds may be made from PVC, Vinyl, and even in Faux Wood fashion.

Sheer Curtains

Sheer curtains are a wonderful treatment for French Door windows. You can affix two curtain rods (one to the top of the door and one at the bottom) and hang beautiful sheer fabric curtains. This is not only a beautiful addition to your doors, but is also a very popular choice. Another option, for those who would prefer not to hang blinds or sheers is to stencil designs on the individual glass windowpanes. You can use a glass frosting kit from your local craft store and using any stencil you desire, add your decorations to the panes. This is an effective way to control how much light passes through the window without the use of curtains, shades, or blinds.
